Foreign ministers of Brazil and Peru sign agreements in Lima

Brasília - The Brazilian and Peruvian governments will sign agreements today (17) in the areas of taxation, agricultural research, and cooperation between diplomatic training institutes. After the ceremony, in Lima, Peru, ministers Celso Amorim and Oscar Maúrtua will hold a collective interview.

The Brazilian chancellor, Amorim, is visiting the Andean nation at the request of the Peruvian government. This morning he will preside the 2nd Meeting of the Brazil-Peru Mechanism for Coordination and Accompaniment. The agenda includes projects of physical integration, implementation of the South American Community of Nations (CASA), and the Economic Complementarity Agreement between Peru and the Mercosur.

The meeting gets underway at 11:15 AM and will be followed by a luncheon offered by minister Maúrtua, who will, in turn, receive the National Order of the Southern Cross, Grand Cross degree, from his Brazilian colleague. Amorim also has meetings scheduled today with Peruvian president Alejandro Toledo and the secretary-general of the Andean Community of Nations (CAN), Allan Wagner.
