Over the next two decades Brazil's senior citizen population will rise to 30 million

Rio, 25 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - According to a survey by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), over the next twenty years Brazil's senior citizen population will rise to 30 million, reaching almost 13% of the total population.

The survey reports that at the moment there are 15 million people in Brazil 60 years of age or more (8.6% of the total population). Most of them, 8.9 million, are women who are heads of households and are, on the average, 69 years of age with an average of 3.4 years of schooling.

In 1991, Brazil had 10,722,705 citizens over 60. At that time, they were 7.3% of the total population. (AB)
