Anápolis (Goiás), 25 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Three new aircraft which will operate as part of the Amazon Surveillance System (Sivam) were officially incorporated yesterday into the Brazilian Air Force in a ceremony that presidente Fernando Henrique Cardoso participated in. The planes were manufactured in Brazil by Embraer, which will furnish another five of them in the near future.

According to the Air Force, with the aircraft in operation Brazil will be able to protect its sovereignty by detecting any invasion of its airspace.

In a speech, Cardoso said that the Sivam project surprised the world by its boldness, and was developed exclusively by Brazilians. (AB)
