Brazil needs to reaffirm commitment to economic stability

Brasília, 25 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The president of the Central Bank, Armínio Fraga, said yesterday that the strategy for dealing with the present uncertainties is to make sure that past errors are not repeated. According to Fraga, it is necessary to reaffirm the commitment to low inflation, respect for contracts and fiscal responsibility. Presidential candidates, says Fraga, must clearly state their position with regard to economic stability, low inflation, respect for contracts and fiscal responsibility.

Fraga added that the government must work to recover credibility and investor confidence. "This is a case of an ounce of prevention being much better than a pound of cure. We must take care of the fundamentals," he concluded. (AB)
