Australia and Brazil to begin talks on WTO complaint against sugar restrictions

Brasília, 19 (Agência Brasil – ABr) – The head of Dispute Settlement at the Australian Department of Commerce and Foreign Relations, Joan Hird, will arrive in Brasilia on Tuesday (July 23) for talks on losses because of European Union restrictions on Cairn Group members who produce sugar. According to Itamaraty, on the table will be a proposal to make a joint complaint at the World Trade Organization. Sugar producers face problems because Europeans subsidize their own sugar production and slap trade barriers and quotas on imports. (AB)
