Rio, 5 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Science and Technology, Ronaldo Sardenberg, said yesterday that the government, business sector and academic community must set up partnerships and unite efforts in favor of innovation so as to eliminate the Brazilian technological deficit, making Brazilian goods more competitive on international markets and creating more jobs domestically.

Sardenberg said that over the next 10 years scientific production investments should rise to 2.2% of GDP (today it is at 1.2%, while developed nations invest 2.7% of GDP).

However, there has been progress, reported Sardenberg. Twenty years ago the Brazilian percentage of world scientific production was a mere 0.2%, today it is 1.4%. (AB)
