Brasília, 28 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The secretary general of the Foreign Ministry, ambassador Osmar Chohfi, opened a national seminar on the Amazon Cooperation Treaty today. The event debates subjects as integration and occupation, environment and development in the Amazon region.
The treaty was created in 1978 by Brazil, Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, Guiana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela for the purpose of promoting sustainable development in the Amazon. According to Chohfi, "Better knowledge of the region is in the interest of the eight Amazon region countries. The seminar is an opportunity to jointly plan activities beneficial to all involved... The cooperation treaty is the best path to achieve that objective." (AB)
