Brasilia, 1 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The technical staff of the National Technical Commission on Biosecurity (CNTBio) will be bolstered in order to help the commission do its work more expeditiously in light of the rapid growth of biotechnology in the world. This is what the Minister of Science and Technology Ronaldo Sardenberg said Thursday, stressing that this reinforcement was ordered by President Cardoso himself.
Sardenberg, who is optimistic about the position of vanguard being achieved by Brazilian researchers, believes that several studies being carried out in the country will soon result in new products and should lead to the opening up of numerous businesses. In order to firm the country's position in the forefront, the Science and Technology ministry has been creating a new series of instruments to speed up the technological development of small and midsize companies. Sardenberg mentioned - as an example of these tools - the incubator companies, venture capital, protection of intellectual property and the establishment of appropriate biosecurity norms. (MW)
