Brasília – The minister of Tourism, Pedro Novais, a federal deputy in the PMDB from the state of Maranhão, accompanied by vice president Michel Temer (also a member of the PMDB), met with president Dilma Rousseff yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, September 14) at the Palacio do Planalto and submitted his resignation. The meeting lasted around 15 minutes. Shortly after that meeting, the Ministry of Tourism issued a declaration confirming the resignation of Novais who faces charges of improper use of public funds.
According to the head of the Office of Social Communication, Helena Chagas, president Dilma Rousseff will announce a substitute very soon.
Note: at almost midnight last night it was announced that the new minister of Tourism will be deputy Gastão Vieira. Like Novais, he is in the PMDB and from Maranhão.
