Brasília – Dozens of doctors and medical students from several states held a demonstration against the “More Doctors” program and the vetoes of the Medical Act Law (on establishing a diagnosis, and the provisions that prevent other professionals from recommending the use of ortheses and prostheses). The protest took place this Thursday (August 8) at the Chamber of Deputies.
Deputies and health professionals criticized the program’s being launched as a provisional measure.
“This act reinforces Parliament. We, therefore, oppose the vetoes on the Medical Act Law and the Provisional Measure 621,” said Aloísio Tibiriçá Miranda , vice-president of Federal Council of Medicine (“CFM”).
The protest was organized by the CFM, the Brazilian Medical Association, the National Association of Medicals in Residency and the National Federation of Doctors.
Launched early in June by the government, the More Doctors program establishes the recruitment of doctors to work in the basic health care field in municipalities with shortages of doctors – areas further away from the main urban centers.
