Brazil govt wants more foreign doctors

Brasília – The Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, announced Thursday (Jan. 9) that Brazil's government may seek further international cooperation in order to meet its goal of having 13,000 health care professionals work for the More Doctors Program by March this year.

The minister reported that the job of Cuban doctors in Brazil has been met with approval by state and local authorities and the population at large. “It's had a very favorable response,” he pointed out.

Designed to address shortages in healthcare services in city slums and remote towns and villages, the More Doctors Program closed out 2013 with 6,658 professionals working in 2,177 municipalities and 28 indigenous districts.
