Brasília, April 30, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The three major problems with secondary schools in Brazil are lack of interest, lack of discipline among students, and lack of space, according to a study conducted by the United Nations Education, Science, and Culture Organization (Unesco) with students and teachers in 13 Brazilian capitals. The results of this analysis were transformed into the book Secondary Education: Multiple Voices, launched yesterday (29) in the auditorium of the Ministry of Education (MEC).

The Minister of Education, Cristovam Buarque, said that young people between 16 and 24 who have already abandoned school or are on the verge of doing so, will not return, if schools continue to offer only traditional instruction. (DAS)
