Brasília, 12 (Agência Brasil – ABr) - Next week minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Sérgio Amaral, will begin talks with sugar mill owners who produce alcohol in order to ensure that if the Pro-alcohol Program is reactivated there will be a reliable supply of alcohol [the Brazilian Pro-alcohol Program made alcohol from sugarcane and used it as a fuel, as well as adding it to gasoline].

Amaral is concerned because a number of countries have expressed the desire to add alcohol to vehicle fuels, or use it as a vehicle fuel. "We have great experience in this area. We have the technology and an efficient distribution network. We cannot stand by and do nothing. We have to take advantage of this opportunity," he said.

In a Radiobras interview, Amaral revealed that during a recent visit by a Japanese delegation they expressed interest in mixing alcohol with gasoline. (AB)
