Rio de Janeiro – Security arrangements have isolated the Marriot Hotel in Copacabana where president Obama and his family are staying. Even so, knowing that they would return to the hotel after visiting Cidade de Deus, crowds formed behind the barriers on the streets hoping to get a glimpse of the Obamas. They didn’t.
The van carrying the family entered directly into the hotel garage.
Since then, the family had lunch at the hotel and president Obama left to go to the next event on his schedule. Obama has now begun to make his speech at the Municipal Theater in the center of the city at Cinelândia (3:00 pm Brasilia time). He is not wearing a tie and began by greeting the audience in Portuguese.
American officials have not announced what his wife and children will do while he is making his speech. It is expected they will visit a samba school.
