Brasilia – Gathered at the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Brasilia, representatives of the government of several countries of the Americas, plus the productive sector, and multilateral organizations such as the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), and the Pan American Health Organization (OPAS) elaborated a final document with measures to prevent the bird flu in the continent.

The main topics of the Brasilia Declaration include the political, technical and financial support to execute the measures that will be provided by participating organizations. The Declaration also established a group to develop strategies and execute them, in a way that favors the integration of countries’ health, agriculture, and production sectors. As per the Declaration, the OIE must be informed of any occurrences of the disease.
