Brasília - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a temporary executive order making US$ 14.4 million available to compensate producers in the areas affected by hoof and mouth disease and to pay for actions to combat the outbreak in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná.

Cattle infected by the hoof and mouth virus present high fever, blisters in the mouth, intense salivation, and blisters on the feet. Since the identification of the first disease focus at the beginning of October, 45 countries have suspended purchases of Brazilian meat.
