Rio - Yesterday (19), in Rio de Janeiro, the minister of Health, Saraiva Felipe, inaugurated the Week of Concentrated Effort in Trauma Surgery for the Elderly. In his speech, Felipe informed that around 50 thousand people in Brazil are on hospital waiting lines around the country to undergo some form of orthopedic surgery.

He said that the Ministry has encouraged intensive mutual efforts such as this one in Rio, during which it is expected that, until Friday (23), in the National Trauma-Orthopedic Institute alone, 150 surgeries will be performed at no cost, to begin to diminish the waiting lines for important operations, such as hip surgery and prosthesis replacement.

The minister also announced that concentrated group efforts will be encouraged for prostate surgery, an area in which there exists great demand in the country.
