Brasília - A joint operation of the Brazilian Federal Police with the police forces of Spain, England, and Italy ended in the seizure, yesterday (21), of a Brazilian flag fishing boat transporting 2.5 tons of cocaine. Seven Brazilian members of the ship's crew were arrested in international waters near the Canary Islands, which belong to Spain.

The ship had been under police surveillance for six months. It departed from a port in the Northern Brazilian state of Pará and docked in Surinam, after which it headed for Europe. Part of the drugs were to be distributed in the Netherlands and the rest in England, where the 2.5 tons of cocaine were estimated to be worth 136 million pounds.
