Brasília - Specialists from a number of countries will be present at the 4th International Conference on Vehicle Emissions which begins today in Brasilia. Under discussion will be ways and means to reduce diseases and environmental damage caused by gases that are released into the air by vehicles, especially in urban centers.
According to the coordinator of the Brazilian Environmental Protection Institute (Ibama) program which deals with the problem (Programa de Controle de Poluição do Ar por Veículos Automotores)
Paulo Macedo, the objective of the meeting is to stimulate the exchange of information among the participants. Macedo points out that although all motors emit some form of pollution, the biggest pollution villain is vehicular emission.
Macedo declared that he sees the conference as a chance to make progress in diesel motor technology. "We will be using electronics in the near future, for example, he said." He also explained that the presence of international experts shows that the automobile has become an international product. "That means Brazilian vehicles have to conform to international standards if we want to sell them abroad. It is a good thing to get opinions from other countries on the issue," Macedo concluded.
