Brasília – The Ministry of the Cities wants to stimulate the use of bicycles as a mean of transportation in Brazil. The issue was debated this Wednesday (13), in Brasília, during an international meeting opened by Minister Olívio Dutra. "Our objective is to prioritize non-motor vehicles, as well as collective transportation," affirmed the Minister.

Today, 28% of Brazilians drive their vehicles to work, but only 3% go by bike. The government intends to motivate people to use it more, and to do it, it is implementing the Brazil Program (Brazilian Program for Mobility by Bicycle), which will foster launching of transportation models that focus on pedestrians and cyclists, in the whole country.

"We will encourage initiatives from non-governmental organizations, city and state governments, and, along with them, we will launch a permanent campaign that will value this urban space," said Dutra.
