Recife - The historical site, Guararapes National Park (Parque Histórico Nacional dos Guararapes), where the Dutch were expelled from Brazil in 1654, is to become a tourist and cultural center.
A renovation plan for the area was presented by the Northeast Military Command and has been approved by the Ministry of Culture and the Institute of Historical and Artistic Landmarks (Iphan). Funds are being raised in the private sector to finance a tourist center with restaurant and lookout, besides landscaping and an amphitheater for 3,000 spectators.
