São Paulo - São Paulo's industries added 5,158 places in September, 0.33% more than in August. It was the best result for September since 2000. So far this year, 51,369 jobs have been created, amounting to a 3.34% increase in the employment level. This result is more than double what it was during the period between January and September, 2000, which industry considers a good year. These data were released by the Fiesp (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo).
In the assessment of Nilton Bastos, Director of the Fiesp's Department of Research and Economic Studies, the trend in the creation of new posts is stable. He said he believes that the sector will end the year with a 4% growth in the employment level, compared with 2003. "The employment level is accompanying the positive trend registered since January," he affirmed. The expansion, however, is no longer due only to exports. According to the economist, the heating up of domestic demand is already being reflected in industry.
The 0.68% job growth in the machinery sector is another positive sign of greater domestic activity. "It an export sector, but there is also a resumption of investments by industries that produce for the domestic market," Bastos affirmed.
Other segments with a significant influence on the number of jobs are printing (2.41%), plastic materials (2.17%), and automobiles (0.64%).
