São Paulo - An employment survey by the union-linked research organization, Dieese, and the Seade Foundation has found an average rise of 1.4% in wages in June, compared to May. The average worker's wage went from US$334 (US$986) to US$338 (US$999).

Clemente Ganz Lúcio, a director at Dieese, says the increase in wages will boost activity in parts of the retail sector, like sales of food.
