Museums to receive funding

Rio - Minister of Culture, Gilberto Gil, has announced a series of measures for the country's museums which will establish clear criteria, transparency and oversight of funding for those institutions.

"We are implanting the National Museum Policy, which will distribute US$332,000 (R$1 million) for acquisitions and modernization. Private sector museums will receive 25% of the funding. We will be funding 25 different projects nationwide," explained the minister.

Gil also announced that between now and the end of 2005, the ministry will invest US$1.66 million (R$5 million) in the National Belas Artes Museum and the National Historical Museum, both in Rio de Janeiro.
