Athens (Greece) - Brazil won its first medal at the Athens Olympic Games. The "judoca" (judo practitioner) Leandro Gulheiro won a bronze medal by defeating his adversary, Victor Bivol, from Modavia, by ippon (submission), today at the Olympic Center in Ana Liossa.
In the entire history of the Olympics, Brazil now possesses a total of 67 medals, of which 12 are gold, 19, silver, and 36, bronze. Judo has been responsible for 11 Olympic medals: 2 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze. This sport is only surpassed by Sailing and Track and Field, in which the country has conquered 12 medals each.
