Seminar seeks to harmonize veterinarian medicines

Brasília - Yesterday minister of Agriculture, Roberto Rodrigues, opened the 10th International Seminar on Harmonization of Registration and Control of Veterinarian Medicines." The event is promoted by the Americas Committee on Veterinarian Medicines and the International Epizootiological Organization (IEO).

Specialists will discuss technical and operational issues involved in registering veterinarian medicines. The idea is to regulate biological and pharmaceutical drugs used in countries in the Americas which are members of the IEO through registration offices.

Another reason for Brazil's interest in the subject is that lack of harmonization has been detrimental to exports. "We have to find a way to harmonize without infringing on sovereignty by using broad-based critieria. Otherwise we will have problems commercializing our veterinarian products and others of animal origin," explains Ricardo Pamplona, who coordinates the sector at the Ministry of Agriculture.
