Rio, May 26, 2004 (Agência Brasil) - The Rio de Janeiro Civil Defense office is on alert, as a new cold front is arriving in the Southeast region, and an extratropical cyclone is forming along the coast of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The cyclone is whipping up Rio's coastal waters and can cause waves up to 2.5 meters high.

The Civil Defense office placed teams on call at problem spots and is informing community leaders what to do in case of emergency.
