Brasília, April 2, 2004 (Agência Brasil) - The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, inaugurates today the Três Lagoas (Three Lakes) Thermoelectric Plant in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The plant was built with investments totaling US$ 172 million (R$ 500 million) from the Brazilian Petroleum Company, Petrobrás.

Três Lagoas is the fifth Brazilian thermoelectric plant to utilize Bolivian natural gas. The final installed capacity of the plant will be 350 MW, enough power for the consumption of a city with 1 million inhabitants. The new plant comprises four gas turbines, equipped with a special combustion system that reduces the impact on the environment.
