Presidential residence to undergo repairs

10/03/2004 - 19h39

Brasília, 3/11/2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will move temporarily from the official presidential residence at the Palácio da Alvorada (in the center of Brasilia) to the Granja do Torto (a house outside the city) for a period of around six months.

During that time the Alvorada will undergo repairs. The building is part of the Brasilia World Heritage Site recognized by the United Nations.

Lula lived at the Granja do Torto during the transition period at the end of 2002 before he took office ("granja" means small farm, and "Torto" is the name of a local stream). (AB)
