Brasília, March 11, 2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The government of Pará wants to form a partnership with the federal government for the recovery and conclusion of the Transamazon and Cuiabá-Santarém highways and the Tocantins-Araguaia waterway. The governor of the state, Simão Jatene, made this proposal at a meeting in the Planalto Palace yesterday (10) afternoon with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the Minister of Transportation, Anderson Adauto. According to the governor, problems with these two highways and the waterway have stifled the economy of the state. "Our priority is to join the federal government to find a way to resolve these bottlenecks, even though they are federal projects," Jatene declared. (DAS)
