Trade surplus in first week of February reached US$313 million

Brasília, 2/10/2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - In the first week of February, Brazil had a trade surplus of US$313 million. According to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, which released the numbers, the daily average value of imports rose more than the daily average value of imports. Thus, with exports totalling US$1.419 billion, the daily average value was US$283.8. Imports totalled US$1.106 billion, with a daily average value of US$221.2 million.

Compared to January, the daily average value of exports was up 2.8%. The daily average value of imports rose 10.3%.

Compared to February 2003, the daily average value of exports was up 13.5%. The daily average value of imports rose 13.8%.

As for the year, the cumulative surplus is now US$1.901 billion, with exports of US$7.219 billion and imports of US$5.318 billion. (AB)
