Price of tomatoes rises 25.03% in Rio in less than a month

Rio, February 10, 2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The cost of filling shopping carts in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro rose 1.33% during the period from January 9 to February 6, 2004. Prices were higher for families from all income brackets, but the greatest increase was for families that earn up to eight minimum wages. The products that suffered the greatest price hikes during the period were: tomatoes (25.03%), potatoes (14.42%), carrots (6.80%), toilet paper (5.75%), beer (5.33%), and deodorants (5.28%). (DAS)
