Brasília, 2/9/2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva declared that he will not embark any "wild adventure" during his term of office. "I am aware of the responsibilities that rest on my shoulders. There are millions of needy Brazilians and my administration has to care for them as if they were our children," he said. Lula said that what had to be done was to make the economy grow, create jobs and work for better income distribution.

Lula said everything possible was being done to ensure that the growth that began at the end of last year would not turn out to be a bubble. "We want sustainable growth, growth that is the result of consistent government policy. Above all, we want dialogue, conversation and lots of agreements," he said. (AB)
