São Paulo, 1/29/2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - With the bankruptcy of Parmalat of Brazil, a court has place the firm's factory in Jundaia, São Paulo, into receivership because of a R$23 million debt the firm has with the Banco do Brasil.

The secretary-general of Brazil's biggest union, the CUT, João Felício, says he understands that the Banco do Brasil debt must be paid but wants to find a way to keep the Jundaia factory open and the workers employed. However, a meeting of CUT and Parmalat representatives scheduled for yesterday was cancelled. (AB)
