Rio, 12/17/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - October industrial production rose in nine of the twelve economic segments surveyed by the government statistical bureau (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística) (IBGE) in its monthly report on industrial activity. Nationwide there was an average increase of 1.1%, compared to September.
The state of Paraná led the rise with 7.6%, followed by Rio Grande do Sul and Ceará, both up 5.5%.São Paulo, up 2.6% and Pernambuco, up 2.1%, were also above the national average.
According to the IBGE, Paraná growth was boosted by chemicals, mechanical equipment and food. In Rio Grande do Sul, there was strong performance in farming, chemicals and mecanical equipment. (AB)
