Brasília - Minister of Control and Transparency, Waldir Pires, is in Mexico where he has signed the United Nations Convention Against Corruption in the name of Brazil. The convention is the result of three years work by 120 countries and its text reflects a consensus on the need for global legislation to fight corruption. It will go into effect after it is signed by 30 countries.
In a speech, minister Peres declared that Brazil's congress is expected to quickly approve the convention as the country is ready to deal with the problem. According to Peres, "Dirty money is a powerful enemy of the construction of democracy." (AB)
