Brasília, 12/4/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Brazil still has around 1.5 million children between the ages of 7 and 14, who are not in school. The biggest problem is in the Northeast region where some 41% of those children live.
In order to reverse the situation, minister of Education, Cristovam Buarque, is launching the School for All program. It will register the children who are not in school and identify the reasons they are not in the classroom. After that is done, the federal government will join local authorities in action plans to get the children in school. (AB)
