Brasília, 12/2/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Yesterday president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced the Child-Friendly Presidential Plan (Plano Presidente Amigo da Criança) which consists of 200 activities directed at children and adolescents with four main objectives: providing them with a healthy life (reducing infant mortality, among other things), promoting quality education, protecting them from abuse, exploitation and violence, and keeping them free of HIV/AIDS.

The plan has already been approved by the National Council on Child Rights (Conanda) and is the result of a campaign promise. It is estimated that R$55.9 billion will be spent on the plan. (AB)
