Government announces new land reform plan to settle 400,000 families by 2006

Brasília, 11/24/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - On Friday the government announced its new land reform plan. The most important points in the plan are to settle 400,000 landless families by the year 2006, give property deeds to 500,000 families who already have received land, create 2.75 million jobs in the agriculture sector, provide 150,000 families with credit, demarcate quilombos, complete the registration and inspection of 2.2 million rural properties and, finally, provide the new property owners with technical assistance.
