Curitiba, October 22, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - On Tuesday (21), the Minister of Agrarian Development, Miguel Rossetto, the president of the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra), Rolf Hackbart, and the governor of Paraná, Roberto Requião, officialized the acquisition of 25 thousand hectares belonging to the Araupel farm, located in the southwest of the state of Paraná. This is the largest land purchase made this year by the federal government for agrarian reform.
According to Rossetto, R$ 132 million will be invested in the project. The Minister said that the government was required to spend R$ 32 thousand for each of the 1,582 families benefitted by the model project. In a unprecedented arrangement, the farm will be administered by a tripartite management council, comprising federal and state governments and the settlers. (DAS)
