Brasília, October 16, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - To do away with hunger in the world, it is necessary, first, to end social exclusion, affirmed José Tubino, representative of the FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) in Brazil, on World Nutrition Day, commemorated today.

Tubino said that programs like Zero Hunger represent examples to be followed. "We are partners of the government in this program, which is complex, difficult, and is still on the way. The Zero Hunger Program is aligned with global agreements to combat hunger," he recalled.

International Alliance Against Hunger is this year's theme for World Nutrition Day. FAO estimates that 840 million people suffer from hunger throughout the world. (DAS)
