Brasília, 10/2/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Secretariat of Public Security will release R$57 million between now and the end of the year for security in some 100 municipalities.
According to the head of the secretariat, Luiz Eduardo Soares, the funds will be used to organize and train local police forces (guarda municipal), and implementing preventive action to combat crime and violence. Soares points out that the recipient municipalities were chosen based on population and crime rates. (AB)
