São Paulo, September 16, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The special reporter for the United Nations' Human Rights Commission on summary executions carried out beyond the limits of the legal system, the Pakistani, Asma Jahangir, arrives in Brazil today to investigate accusations of excessive violence and assassinations committed by police officers and government agents. She will travel around the country until October 8 and, in the coming months, prepare a report based on the information she gathers. The text will be sent to all countries, in order to publicize the situation of violence that exists in Brazil.
Upon her arrival, Jahangir will receive a report from the non-governmental organization (NGO), the Center for Global Justice, containing denunciations of violence. (DAS)
