Curitiba, September 12, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - 30 thousand people in Brazil die each year, victims of traffic accidents, a more devastating´impact than that caused by modern wars, the secretary of Transportation and Urban Mobility, of the Ministry of Cities, José Carlos Xavier, recalled today at the opening of the 51st National Forum of Secretaries and Administrators of Urban Transportation and Transit, attended by secretaries of urban transportation, mayors, and traffic administrators from all over the country.
Besides new measures to prevent traffic violence, they are discussing reductions in public transit fares and the Brazilian commemoration of the "In the city without my car" day, which will be held in 30 cities on September 22, with support from the Ministries of Cities and the Environment. (DAS)
