Cure for tropical diseases is theme of meeting in Recife

Recife, September 9, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Scientific contributions for the cure of tropical diseases such as dengue fever, yellow fever, malaria, tuberculosis, and leishmaniasis, which affect almost a million people around the world, will be discussed today by approximately 60 specialists from Brazil and 12 other countries, in a symposium at the Aggeu Magalhães Research Center, a unit of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz).

At the opening of the encounter, the president of the Fiocruz, Paulo Buss, affirmed that the programs to control these diseases go together with a set of strategies that include the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the population, such as access to potable water and basic sanitation.
