Rio, 9/8/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) – Brazil is against the extension of the so-called WTO "peace clause," which prohibits nations from contesting protectionist measures by other nations, reports minister of Development, Luiz Fernando Furlan. The peace clause expires at the end of this year.

Furlan says Brazil is opposed to the extension of the clause because it permits countries to continue practicing protectionism without being challenged at the WTO. The minister said that by allowing the peace clause to expire, Brazil will be able to question protectionistic measures which have been put in place. (AB)
