Brasília, 8/21/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Today president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will officially announce the recreation of the Amazon Development Superintendency (Sudam) at a ceremony in the presence of minister of National Integration, Ciro Gomes, and state governors from the Amazon region.

The future superintendency will unite social forces for the promotion of sustainable development and social inclusion, increasing the region's market competitivity. "Sudam will be the hub of a strategic planning effort to insert the Amazon region into domestic and international markets," declared Ciro Gomes. (AB)
