President of Guyana announces support for permanent seat on UN Security Council for Brazil

Brasília, 7/31/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The president of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeu, is visiting Brazil. Yesterday he met president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and in the joint declaration released afterwards, declared that his country will support the Brazilian candidacy for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Brazil now has the support of all of South America, with the exception of Argentina and Columbia.

Since Lula took office in January, most of South America's president's have been in the country. The last to do so will be Ricardo Lago of Chile who arrives in August. Lago has already announced he will support a seat for Brazil on the UN Security Council. (AB)
