Brasília, July 31, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Central Government (Federal Treasury, Social Security, and Central Bank) presented a primary surplus (revenues less expenses, excluding interest payments) of R$ 29.2 billion from January to June, which corresponds to 3.94% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The average surplus for the period was R$ 5.7 billion.
In June, the primary surplus amounted to R$ 754.7 million, the smallest of the year. The Federal Treasury showed a R$ 2.560 billion surplus, while Social Security had a R$ 1.779 billion deficit, and the Central Bank, a R$ 2.5 million surplus. (DAS)
