Lisbon, 7/9/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - On the eve of a trip to Portugal, president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has received a document from a Workers Party (PT) Center in that country charging that Brazilians living in Portugal are the victims of discrimination. A meeting has been scheduled this Friday in Lisbon, which will bring Lula and representatives of the center together.
Manuel Pereira Andrade, one of the directors of the center, says that the discrimination runs the gamut from refusal of credit in stores to frequent invasions of immigrant residencies, with or without search warrents.
Members of the PT center say they will also ask Lula to set up a continuous registration system for Brazilians living abroad so they can be ensured of their rights, such as the right to vote in elections. (AB)
